Linux Platform Engineer (RHEL/OpenShift)
Location: Bern / 2-3 days per week in the office
Start: 01.09.26 - 30.06.27
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Linux Platform Engineer to join a dynamic infrastructure team responsible for the installation, administration, automation, and continuous improvement of enterprise Linux environments. You will play a key role in deploying and maintaining modern open-source platforms while collaborating closely with DevSecOps, network, and security teams to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available solutions.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), OpenShift, Kubernetes, automation, and infrastructure engineering, who enjoys working with modern DevOps practices and open-source technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, integrate, and configure applications on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and OpenShift platforms.
- Integrate applications with enterprise services such as LDAP, SSO, Active Directory, mail systems, backup solutions, reverse proxies, and monitoring tools.
- Automate deployments and system administration using Ansible and Infrastructure as Code principles.
- Support operations teams by troubleshooting complex infrastructure and application issues.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and operational procedures.
- Deliver training and onboard users to new tools and technologies.
- Continuously improve the platform by enhancing redundancy, automation, logging, monitoring, and operational resilience.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python and Shell/Bash.
- Collaborate closely with DevSecOps, Network, and Security teams to implement secure and reliable infrastructure solutions.
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the infrastructure using modern DevOps and GitOps methodologies.
Required Skills & Experience
- Technical qualification (EFZ) with further education (FH/HF) in Computer Science or a related discipline is desirable.
- Proven experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, ideally OpenShift.
- Experience implementing and supporting open-source applications on Linux platforms.
- Solid understanding of:
- Network technologies
- Web servers (Apache, Nginx)
- Databases (MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
- Security concepts and best practices
- Experience with Ansible or similar automation and configuration management tools.
- Knowledge of GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, and "Everything as Code" principles.
- Experience developing automation using Python and Shell/Bash scripting.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Nextcloud and openDesk.
- Knowledge of the Atlassian Suite (Confluence and Jira).
- Experience with monitoring solutions such as Zabbix.
- Experience integrating LDAP and Single Sign-On (SSO).
- Familiarity with SAFe 6.0 or other Agile frameworks.
- Passion for open-source technologies and continuous improvement.
Language Requirements
- Fluent German (written and spoken) is essential.
- Good English communication skills.
